Statement of Intention

A concept, one that is visionary and striking, immediately draws the viewer in. This concept is rarely tangible, with its intricacies neglected. Along with promise and foresight, it prompts questions; is what I am seeing genuine? Could this be realised in a physical form? Is its superficiality its sole purpose? In a world where data is “uploaded” to an enigmatic “cloud” and investors make critical decisions based on mere market models and forecasts – this idea of vision is what drives our emotions and leads to innovation.

This investigation is based fundamentally on my deep interest in digital software and engineering. I did not approach it with a blank slate; I already had ideas and methods at hand that I wanted to experiment with. For example, I profoundly enjoy taking objects apart to expose the mechanisms inside – rarely with the aim of putting them back together. Exploring the possibilities of virtual reality and digital modeling is also a keen interest of mine, not only due to the novelty of the technology itself but the transformative effects it will have on our own real world. It is these ideas that have directed my intention. My personal investigation aims to analyze articles of interest through disassembly and dematerialisation. Reflecting and responding to them through digital means, to create my own concepts that captivate the emotions of those who view them. I aim to further my knowledge of the link between the physical and virtual world as after all, according to Marina Abramovic, “the future of art is digital”.
