Gego: Line as Object

Antoine Pevsner: Maquette of a Monument Symbolising the Liberation of the Spirit

Upon a visit to Tate London, I found this beautifully intricate sculpture. It, too, appears as a wireframe mesh and seeks to allow the viewer to fill in the gaps between adjacent wires. However it is the precision I found t be most interesting when I saw it first-hand.

Suspended Engine: Fishing Wire

To recreate Gego and Pevsner, I used a DSLR to capture up-close shots of the fishing wire connecting the engine components.

Reconstruction of Suspended Engine

I began by taking the original engine suspension plan, and using the “line” tool in Blender to move from one allocated to the next, in the corresponding to which I physically placed each part.

Then, having taken roughly 100 photos of the installation whilst in situ, I created two 3D scans of the floor and engine pieces themselves. This was done by importing these photos into Autodesk ReCap Photo and letting the software reconstruct the two scenes.
